Mount Vernon Crew Seniors 2008

About Mount Vernon Crew

Crew is the sport of rowing.  The Mount Vernon Crew team rows with eight and four-person shells (boats) with each person using one oar, also known as sweeps.  We practice on the Potomac River from Fort Belvoir and the Mount Vernon Yacht Club.  Crew is a spring sport, but there is a winter off-water conditioning program to build strength and endurance.

Teamwork is vital in crew.  Athletes must not only learn proper rowing technique but also how to work in unison with other rowers to balance the boat and row effectively as a team.

As a club sport, we receive no funds from Fairfax County or Mount Vernon High School and depend on the generosity of our community.  fund raisers and donations air the purchase of equipment, supplies and pay race entry fees.  As a 501c3 organization, donations can be tax deductible.
