Summer Rowing Camps:

Here is a list of all of the local summer camps for which I have received email notices. I have just copied and pasted what I was sent in no particular order. In addition, Thompsons Boat Club in D.C. runs an excellent local camp for competitive rowers, but I did not get an email from them.

If you want your rower to go away to camp, there are a number of excellent camps at places like William and Mary and the Naval Academy and as far away as North East Rowing Center in Maine. Feel free to contact me to discuss any of these camps.

ODBC MEN'S & WOMEN'S SELECT HIGH PERFORMANCE ROWING PROGRAM

- SUMMER 2009 -

June 8th – July 22nd 2009 at Dee Campbell Rowing Center

Pre-Registration Closes on June 5, 2009

The Old Dominion Boat Club, the birthplace of high school rowing in Alexandria, is proud to sponsor the eleventh season of competitive crew for area high school rowers. This is the area’s fastest and most selective program, and seats are awarded after tryouts.

During the 2008 fall racing season, ODBC took Gold in all five local races while breaking 5 out of 5 course records in the process. At last season's Head of the Charles Regatta, The ODBC Men showed once again that there is no match anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic Region or a majority of the United States after finishing 12th of 64 teams and only 20 seconds away from 3rd place, far faster than any other team in our area.

ODBC is now adding a summer select program, one sure to live up to the club’s successful past. ODBC will be racing at The Charm City Sprints (MD), Independence Day Regatta (Philadelphia), Capital Sprints (DC), possibly Schuylkill Navy Regatta (Philadelphia), and the USRowing Club National Championships (Oak Ridge, TN).

Program Details:

- Cost of $325.00 for summer 2009 Program. Cost covers Equipment, and racing at Charm City Sprints, Independence Day Regatta, and Capital City Sprints. Schuylkill Navy may be added to regional racing calendar. Travel to/from Philadelphia not included.

- Variable costs (registration, travel, food, lodging) associated with USRowing Club National Championships in Oak Ridge, TN are not included (if max enrollment is reached, additional costs can be covered by ODBC)

- Program begins June 8, 2009 at Dee Campbell Boathouse

Fall Rowing:

The Northern Virginia Rowing Club Fall Rowing Program for Junior Boys and Girls

The program will be headed by Bill Randall, rowing coach at West Springfield High School, former varsity lightweight coach at the US Coast Guard Academy, and a member of the 1987 US National Team. The program will provide an opportunity for experienced high school rowers (at least one year of experience required and two is preferred) to row in eights, fours and maybe even a little sculling on the Occoquan River. This is not a Learn-to-Row program. Join us for a fall rowing program dedicated to improving skills, getting in lots of miles, and compete in some of the local head races. The program will run from Wednesday 9 September 2009 to Saturday 31 October 2009. Practices will be held four days a week: Monday, Wednesdays and Thursday from 4:30 to 6:45 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Sandy Run Rowing Facility on the Occoquan River. Early registrants get preference in the event the program fills.
